Jesus Shaped People is on the brink of expansion, as growing numbers of churches benefit from the fresh approach to Christian discipleship it offers. Already well rooted in many northern dioceses, In the past few months, interest in JSP has spread to the south of England—and there have even been enquiries from New Zealand and the United States!

Currently the JSP Trust is afloat thanks to a group of highly committed volunteers. It is financially sustained by a few generous donations, and from the underspend of a grant made by the Church Commissioners back in 2012.

Team Leader Gordon Dey states: ‘Our vision is for JSP to be widely available, with a special priority for it being adopted by churches in socially disadvantaged areas. I’m delighted that the Trustees have adopted a firm policy that there will be no charge for adopting JSP.’

To meet growing interest, the Board of Trustees, led by Paul Slater, Bishop of Richmond, aims to create a central core team consisting of a full-time director, a part-time children/youth coordinator, plus administration and web support and to have these posts in place early in 2018. Bishop Paul writes: ‘We need to recruit a small but effective core team that can work with partners in other dioceses and denominations to enable us to have capacity for growth and expansion. Please join us in prayer for generous and committed giving that can enable this to be put in place.’

The Trustees’ policy creates an urgent challenge to raise £100,000 a year, for at least three years, to fund the creation of this central team that will develop existing relationships and spread its work with parishes and other partners across England.

The appeal is now live, and donations large or small, from churches and individuals, are warmly invited. Personal donations can be made directly through this website by clicking the BT MyDonate button. Churches wishing to donate please click the ‘support JSP’ button on the main menu and follow instructions.

We are currently waiting for clearance from the Charity Commissioners that MyDonate are able to apply Gift Aid to donations. However we will ensure that any donations made before this is achieved will still eventually have Gift Aid added where this is appropriate.
